Bar coding boosts patient safety by Valerie Hoven

After implementing CPOE last summer, our next phase is bar coding. A recent study shows that it improves patient safety, and it’s being considered for a meaningful use criterion in 2013. Good thing we got it done in 2010!

We are having a beach day themed party where staff can demo the new bar code system before we go live. It’s a time to play with software! I advocated for virgin pina coladas at the event, but the higher-ups said “no thanks.” Employees LOVE free food and drinks! So why not offer them alcohol-free margaritas for their “Technology Island” software showcase event?
